DG DEFIS leads the EU’s space agenda, ensuring autonomous access and strategic security. Programmes like Galileo and Copernicus strengthen industrial competitiveness and infrastructure resilience, promoting at the same time SMEs innovation. The proposed EU Space Law aims to create a secure, sustainable regulatory framework. The goal is to position Europe as a global space leader, integrating defence, industry, and research.

The 2030 Defence Readiness Roadmap focuses on scaling production, improving military mobility, and supporting Ukraine. Periodic summits with the industries align strategies, while the SAFE framework speeds up critical equipment delivery. The aim is a resilient, innovative, and interoperable European defence industry.

Commission publishes the Action Plan on Drone and Counter-Drone Security

DG DEFIS supports Europe’s aeronautics sector by advancing clean technologies like hydrogen-powered aircraft and sustainable fuels. Research funding and public-private partnerships drive innovation, while digitalisation and supply chain resilience remain key priorities. The objective is to maintain Europe’s global leadership in aeronautics through sustainability and technological progress.

DG DEFIS coordinates EU military aid to Ukraine, accelerating ammunition and defence system production via dedicated calls and the SAFE framework. The focus is on delivering timely assistance while strengthening Europe’s industrial capacity and cross-border cooperation.
