Copernicus Horizon 2035 conference

The Copernicus Horizon 2035 symposium will take place on February 16 and 17 in Toulouse. The event will be livestreamed, held online and opened to the public. Several presentations will be organised by the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission to  discuss the future of Copernicus.

The dramatic consequences of climate change led the European Union (EU) to develop innovative and autonomous solutions to better address environmental challenges. 

The Copernicus programme, managed by the European Commission, and implemented by EU Member States and entrusted entities, was born in this context.

Copernicus, a world-class environmental monitoring programme

Thanks to the Copernicus programme, Europe has a competitive environmental monitoring system.

 Copernicus collects data through monitoring the Earth and its development. It enables us to understand better our planet, and to respond to our environmental challenges in more sustainable way. These data are provided by satellites (including the Sentinel families) and by in-situ systems, such as ground stations and their many ground, sea or air sensors.

Overall, Copernicus services supports Europe through six services: atmospheric monitoring; marine monitoring; land monitoring; climate change; emergency management; and security-related services.

Copernicus Horizon 2035: a conference to anticipate tomorrow's challenges

The Copernicus Horizon 2035 conference aims to bring together the European Commission, Member States, delegated bodies and Copernicus users to discuss current and future environmental challenges.

These discussions will contribute to Copernicus’ development for 2035 and beyond with the aim of anticipating and tackling the environmental challenges that our planet will face in the future.  

This symposium will gather all participants’ proposals for the future of Copernicus in order to strengthen and structure Europe’s efforts towards climate change. These proposals will be discussed in the conclusions of the Council of the European Union.

After an opening speech by Ms. Vidal, Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and by  Mr. Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, this two-day conference will entail seven interactive sessions:

- Copernicus, pillar of the ecological and digital transition

- Copernicus, taking the pulse of our planet: inspirational talks

- A common stance for Copernicus: Trio of Presidencies of the Council of the EU

- Copernicus horizon 2035

- How to boost Copernicus user uptake?

- Fostering market development in Europe

High-level speakers will intervene in these sessions, and share their visions and experiences on the environmental and space challenges faced by our societies.

Format of the conference

The conference speakers will meet in Toulouse, the European aeronautics and space capital, in order to film and live broadcast their participation online available for the public.

Participants can register on the event’s platform to engage with each other, and ask questions to speakers. It will be also possible to watch the conference without registering on the platform directly on the website.
