Tracking Galileo's signals from the Moon

Tracking Galileo signals from the moon

Qascom, in partnership with the Italian Space Agency (ASI), is set to make history by achieving the first-ever satellite navigation positioning fix from the Moon using Galileo and GPS signals. The Blue Ghost Mission 1 spacecraft is scheduled to land on the Moon in the coming weeks. It will attempt to determine a space vehicle’s position approximately 400,000 kilometers from Earth thanks to the  Lunar GNSS Receiver Experiment (LuGRE) from Quascom in collaboration with ASI. It will receive and track signals from the Galileo and GPS satellite constellations during the Earth-to-Moon transit and throughout a full lunar day on the Moon’s surface.

This marks a historic moment for Galileo, as it will be the first time a Galileo-enabled receiver reaches the Moon. Galileo is leading the way in space navigation, scientific research, and advancing lunar exploration technologies.
