Description
The workshop will deal with the Copernicus Contributing Missions’ activity: commercial satellite data provided by the so-called Copernicus Contributing Missions to answer to the VHR data needs of the Copernicus services in the first place. This implies also the possible re-use of these data by the Copernicus participating states’ public authorities.
We are also looking for European New Space actors to present their new space activities in the workshop and indicate how their activity/data concretely respond to the data needs/requirements of the Copernicus services. For more information, please click here or at the bottom of this page.
Access to third party ‘contributing missions’ is an important source of Earth Observation (EO) data, complementing the Sentinel satellites. Such data, most prominently very-high resolution optical and SAR data, is critical for some Copernicus Services. The primary objective remains to ensure access to additional timely, high quality, reliable and affordable data and services to satisfy the evolving needs of the Copernicus Services. Simultaneously, it is important to promote the competitiveness of our European industry and stimulating new and innovative initiatives (new space solutions) in Europe. Reinforcing the competitiveness of the European VHR data provision and its providers can be achieved by encouraging the emergence of multiple supply sources (through anchor tenancy) to avoid reliance on a single company and industrial lock-in situations.
The way the CCM activity is organised and operated is being revised and this is done in close dialogue with our Copernicus participating states and European space industry.
The workshop aims to have dedicated discussions and interactions for a better understanding and shaping of the revision of the CCM activity.
On the first day, the workshop aims to facilitate interactions and discussions between the demand for VHR (and other) data (Copernicus services, Copernicus participating States) and the European data providers. European new space companies will get an opportunity to present or share the info on their upcoming activities and how this answers to the Copernicus services’ VHR data need.
On the second day, the workshop aims to ease exchange of views on the revision of the CCM activity based on ESA’s current ongoing ‘Request for Information on the revision of the CCM activity’ (https://ideas.esa.int/. ), dealing with topics like anchor tenancy, licenses and other.
European new space companies will get an opportunity to present or share the info on their upcoming activities and how this answers to the Copernicus services’ VHR data need.
