Description
As Europe faces an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving security landscape, the European Defence Fund continues to play a vital role in driving innovation and cooperation in the development of defence technologies and capabilities.
The European Defence Fund’s priorities for 2024 are closely aligned with the strategic objectives outlined in the White Paper on European Defence Readiness 2030, which emphasizes the need for a surge in defence investment to address the pressing security challenges facing the continent. With a focus on critical technologies, such as AI, quantum, and air defence, the Fund will support projects that have the potential to drive transformative change in the European defence sector.
The Commission will invest close to €1 billion in 62 new EDF projects, bringing total EU funding for collaborative defence R&D to over €4 billion since 2021. The selected proposals respond to the funding priorities of the 2024 EDF work programme, addressing 32 topics structured along four thematic calls for proposals, plus bottom-up calls focused on SMEs.
