First EDIP Call closes and receives high number of proposals

83 proposals were submitted by European defence industry under the very first call for proposals of the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP) that closed on 16 June 2026 at 17:00h, demonstrating both the relevance of EDIP for the European defence industry as well as Europe’s ability to act at the speed of relevance. 

The call for proposals on ‘Energetic Components’ will provide over €165 million to European companies to reinforce their production capacities for propellant powder, explosives and other key energetic components of missiles, bombs, anti-drone systems, and other critical ammunitions. This funding is expected to leverage additional investment from industry through co-financing, resulting in a total investment of up to €470 million in this key supply chain. 

The strong geographic spread of the proposals, covering companies from 23 Member States and Norway, underlines the programme’s relevance across the European defence technological and industrial base. 

The Commission services will now evaluate the proposals and identify the most relevant ones by September 2026. 

The European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP) is a €1.5 billion EU-wide initiative to strengthen and modernise Europe’s defence industry, ramp-up production capacity, and ensure cutting-edge technology, resilience, and steady supply of military equipment to the armed forces of the Member States. As part of EDIP, the Ukraine support instrument or USI, with a dedicated budget of EUR 300 million, contributes to the recovery, reconstruction and modernisation of the Ukrainian Defence Technological and Industrial Base (DTIB)
