The European Union Space Programme at the ESA's Living Planet Symposium 2022 in Bonn

The 2022 edition of the European Space Agency’s 2022 Living Planet Symposium, is currently being held in Bonn. The European Commission is actively participating in the forward-looking discussions on the field of Earth Observation and its relevance to global policymaking, to ensure the well-being of our planet and to understand, mitigate and adapt to Climate Change. EU Space data and services are pivotal to the future of Earth Observation both within Europe and globally. Above all, the European Commission is highlighting the central role of Copernicus for climate action as a global leader in the provision of Earth Observation data and information to users across the world under a full, free, and open data access policy.

As EU Commissioner Breton stated in his address, “The European Green Deal is, and will be, a genuine game changer and Copernicus supports almost all European Green Deal priorities.” DG DEFIS colleagues present at the EU Space pavilion are encouraging attendees to learn more about the EU Space programme. This includes showcases of Copernicus, Galileo and EGNOS, Space Traffic Management, the Secure Connectivity Initiative and the CASSINI Space Entrepreneurship Initiative.

The Living Planet Symposium is welcoming 4,700 academics, scientists, institutional stakeholders, entrepreneurs, and students to discuss key technological, business, and geopolitical trends related to Earth Observation systems as well its contribution toward informing policymaking in Europe and beyond.
