KOM EUDIS
DG DEFIS’ Director of Defence Industry, Mr. François Arbault and Mr. Harri Tallinn from Civitta representing the awarded consortium, signing EUDIS Hackathons contract to organise the first EU-wide defence hackathons in Spring 2024.

Today DG DEFIS officially launched the EUDIS Hackathons, a crucial component of the European Defence Innovation Scheme, scheduled for Spring 2024. For the first time at the European Union level, defence hackathons will be organised across multiple locations in the Member States, aiming to design innovative solutions for the future.

The launch of this new series of hackathons, is a significant step towards EUDIS’ goals:

  • Promoting skills development and attract talented innovators to work in the defence sector.
  • Fostering connections between different ecosystems, creating new links between young innovators from civil ecosystems and experts from the defence industry and end-users.
  • Providing a stimulating environment for creating innovative solutions that support the needs of the EU Member States and Norway, contributing to a competitive and innovative European defence industry.
  • Connecting the innovators with the challenges faced by defence end-users in their operational environment.

EUDIS Hackathons present an opportunity to attract highly skilled individuals and early start-up businesses to the defence sector, and match end-users with industry.

The winners of the hackathons will be granted mentorship to further develop their found solutions. The mentoring phase is a crucial step for winning teams to become competitive SMEs or start-ups in the defence market.

The EUDIS hackathons will be held annually each spring.

EUDIS, the European Defence Innovation Scheme offers SMEs, start-ups, and other non-traditional defence industry actors more opportunities to access and benefit from the European Defence Fund, the EU’s 8 billion defence Research & Development programme. Hackathons is one of the innovation tracks of EUDIS.
