4th EISF meeting: EU Industry and Start-ups Forum on STM

4th EISF meeting: EU Industry and Start-ups Forum on STM brainstorms on future tendering opportunities to enhance operational capabilities in the EU space surveillance industry

On 23-24 May 2023, DG DEFIS hosted the 4th meeting of the EU Industry and Start-ups Forum on Space Traffic Management (EISF). DG DEFIS and the EU SST Consortium (now EU SST Partnership) brainstormed with more than 140 participants from the EU SSA commercial sector how future tendering opportunities could be designed and how the EU SST programme could evolve in the future. Participants engaged actively in the exchanges, thereby helping to shape the work of the three EISF Working Groups (‘Commercial Data Provision’, ‘Development of innovative commercial sensors and value chain’, and ‘Services’) in enhancing operational space surveillance capacities of the EU industry. Participants also learned about opportunities in the framework of the European Defence Fund (EDF) and the In-Orbit Demonstration and Validation (IOD/IOV) initiative.

Background

The EISF gathers more than 150 members from more than 70 EU companies including start-ups, SMEs, midcaps and major actors. Several Research and Technology Organisations (RTO) established in the EU also participate in the EISF. Together with EU stakeholders, they jointly define research and development priorities which are funded by tendering more than 80% of the available EU SST budget to EU industry.

The EISF helps implement the second avenue on “enhancing EU operational capabilities to support STM” of the Joint Communication on an EU approach to STM.
